Meet Sara.

A transportation planner, Sara Barz earned a masters degree in City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley in 2015. She currently serves as the District 7 representative on the San Francisco County Transportation Authority Community Advisory Committee. In 2024, Mass Transit magazine recognized Sara as a 40 under 40 transit professional

Sara was nominated to the SFMTA Board of Directors by outgoing Mayor London Breed in the fall of 2024, but her nomination was ultimately blocked by the Board of Supervisors — along with Breed's other appointments — to allow Mayor-elect Daniel Lurie to fill the vacancies.

Sara co-founded Seamless Bay Area and Friends of Slow Hearst, and she is a volunteer leader of the safe streets advocacy group KidSafe SF. Sara is a founding board member of the Westside Family Democratic Club and worked on the popular “Yes on J” campaign in 2022 to protect JFK Promenade in Golden Gate Park.

Sara and her husband Ian live with their two year-old son Calvin and their two ginger rescue kittens in the Sunnyside neighborhood of San Francisco.
